We will have shoe fittings at the studio coming up soon! Just in time for classes to start.

We do encourage you to come in for a fitting and order shoes through the studio or go to the nearest DANCEWEAR store. Shoes are sized very differently than regular shoes and ordering from amazon, while convenient, is sometimes a headache unless you know how to size each brand of shoe. Also, Tap shoes from general store often aren’t made with quality metal on the taps and will damage our floors. Be sure your taps are rounded metal, if they have a sharp edge, please avoid that purchase.

Some basics:

  • Have your hair secured and pulled off of your face

  • No jeans or restricting clothing

  • As it gets colder, it may be tempting to wear your favorite Step N Time hoodie to class, but please be dressed to dance underneath your warm clothes

  • We have tights available for you: footed, footless, and convertible. Please see us if you need some!

ACRO/TUMBLE TOTS: must have access to bare feet and wear form fitting dance wear. Loose clothing will prevent our instructors from being able to spot you properly, or cause injury on some skills. PLEASE wear appropriate attire, some skills will have to be sat out of if your attire prevents us from being able to teach/assist you in a proper and safe manner.

Creative Movement/Dance Kids: Shoes: Pink, leather ballet slippers. Attire: Leotard & tights. Ballet skirts, leg warmers, and ballet sweaters are acceptable as well.

Ballet/Pointe: Shoes: Pink, canvas ballet slippers or pointe shoes (Miss Amy really likes the way Dancy Pants in Lansing, MI fits students for pointe). Attire: Leotard & tights. Ballet skirts, leg warmers, and ballet sweaters are acceptable as well. Remember: it is to your benefit to wear appropriate clothing so that your instructor can make proper corrections and be sure that you are using the correct muscles.

Tiny Tap, Level I Tap, Level II Tap: Shoes: Black, u-shell tap shoes. Attire: Leotard & tights are encouraged. Dance pants are also acceptable as long as they do not cover your shoes. Long pants can get under your taps and cause injury.

Level III Tap, Level IV Tap, Level V Tap, Collegiate Tap: Shoes: Black, Bloch tap shoes (available upon request). Attire: Dance clothing that doesn't constrict movement and that allows your instructor to see the lines of your body.

Hip Hop (all levels): Shoes: Clean street shoes/sneakers/combat boots. Attire: These classes have more freedom in terms of dressing, but it is still important to wear dance clothes that allow your instructor to see the lines of your body and be sure that you are moving correctly.

Jazz (all levels): Shoes: Dark tan, stretch jazz boot. Attire: Leotard & tights. Jazz pants, dance shorts, and appropriate fitting tops are acceptable as well.

Lyrical (all levels): Sole Shields or Dance Paws (available upon request). Attire: Leotard & tights.

Musical Theatre (all levels): Shoes: see instructor, as it may differ. Attire: These classes have more freedom in terms of dressing, but it is still important to wear dance clothes that allow your instructor to see the lines of your body.
